Abstract
Rlaces devoted to some holy person or deity occur on many spots of the Earth's surface; they also occur in vast space of the human mind. Shrines that are visualized and workshipped in the mind of meditation appear in many South Asian religious cultures. What is the nature of these shrines and the activities associated with them? How do they differ from their physical counterpart? And why are they frequently held to be superior to physical shrines? These are some important questions to be pursued in this paper.
