Abstract
This essay contends that the framework of the religious meaning of the 16th century devotee-biographers of Sri Krsna-Caitanya tended to intensify rather that diminish their zealto search out and accurately record much historical information bearing on their subject. For convenience, I call this tendency "Myth in quest of history". Here I use the term "myth" in a somewhat extended sense: to designate the overall framework of religious meaning adhered to by each of the devotee-writers.
