Abstract
In this arñcle, I will present a translation of a part of the mid<ixteenth century Vaishnava text, Hari-bharti-utlâsa, dealing with the ceremonial morning bath, Besides being of interest for those curious about this particular ritual, the passage gives some insights into ideas of purity according to the tradition, and sheds light upon how the indigenous peoples of north India viewed the distinction between Vedic and Tantric rites.
