Abstract
Ever since graduate school I have been occupied with one or anothe r aspect of the god Krishna; consequently one of my favourite times to in India is Krishna's birthday, which usually falls in late August or early September. Even Benares, which is really Siva's town, goes all out for Krsnajanmashtami, and in the bazaars you can find everything you need to celebrate this great day - dolls, little feries wheels; they even sell miniatue Benares mailboxes, with the zipcodes carefully painted in.
