Abstract
Religious narratives posses none of the dogmatic and clarity and correctness which the timid seek. Instead the oft-told story increases its layers of enthusiastic, superflous and suggestive embroidery its concrete applications and its local adaptations. But this creative development of the story line provides opportunities for the devotee to enter the story, to relate to the object of devotion, and to appropriate the experience of the religious path, indeed to play a part in the further role of the story.
