Abstract
From its very inception, the Gauḍīya Vaiṣṇava philosophy and its adherents have considered youthful Kṛṣṇa along with Rādhikā as their l‘amour de vie. The Caitanya-caritāmṛta1 emphatically declares this fact:
śyāmam eva paraṁ rūpaṁ
purī madhu-purī varā
vayaḥ kaiśorakaṁ dhyeyam
ādya eva paro rasaḥ
“Śyāma alone is the topmost form.
Among cities, Mathurā’s the best.
Of all ages, [his] youth is worthy of meditation.
And the topmost rasa is ādya (the conjugal mādhurya-rasa)”
