Abstract
The govardhana-dhāraṇa (‘the lifting of Govardhana [hill]’) episode is one of the most significant of Kṛṣṇa’s plays, shown by two facts: the canonical Vaiṣṇava texts such as the Harivaṃśa, the Viṣṇu- and the Bhāgavatapurāṇas mention and describe it in some detail; and the sort of worship it elicitseven nowadays among the devotees.
