Abstract
While the Gīta-govinda of Odissi poet Śrī Jayadeva (circa 1200 CE) is known for its poems on the amorous līlās (playful sports) of Śrī Rādhā and Śrī Kṛṣṇa, it also encompasses another gem of Vaishnava poetry—the Daśāvatāra-stotra. Found in the first padāvalī (stanza-series) of the Gīta-govinda, this stotra (hymn of praise) is a Sanskrit poetic rendition of the ten primary avatāras (divine descents) of Kṛṣṇa.
