Abstract
This paper attempts to understand Sita as she lived and conducted herself in the Ramayana’s remote past—on her own terms, by her own rules. She appears in the Ramayana as the embodiment of nature, springing from the earth and returning to it in no uncertain terms (and she does this naturally, just like a plant). A major part of her life is spent living the spontaneous life of the forest.
