Abstract
The Mådhva-sampradåya offers the world a rich set of commentaries on the Isåvåsyopanisat, as the Våjasaneya-saµhitopanißat of the Ûukla-yajurveda—more generally known as Isopanisat—is called in that community. These include Madhva’s original commentary (Isåvåsyopanisad-bhåsya), the super-commentary of Jayatîrtha (Isåvåsyopanisad-bhåsad-†îkå), followed by six sub-commentaries on Jayatîrtha: the Viv®ti of Raghunåtha Tîrtha, the PrakåΩikå of Vådiråja Tîrtha, the Vyåkhyåna of Ûrînivåsa Tîrtha, the Pañcikå of Chalåri-N®siµhåcårya, the Durgama-våkyårtha-vivara∫a of N®siµhåcårya, the Êippa∫î of Gü∂ha-kårt®ka, as well as Råghavendra Tîrtha’s independent commentary ÈΩåvåsyopanißat-kha∫∂årtha and Guhapura-k®ß∫aΩarma’s ÈΩåvåsyopanißat-prabhå. This paper offers a brief selection of these Dvaita school comments on the first two verses of ÈΩåvåsyopanißat, as well as relevant notes found
in other important works by Madhva or his successors.
